Course Overview

“All the world’s a stage, And all the men and women, merely Players; They have their Exits and their Entrances, And one man in his time plays many parts, His Acts being seven ages.” Shakespeare

Above Shakespeare monologue from his famous play “As You Like It”- explains us the role-play of a man in his seven stages of life. A drama is actually a mode of fictional representation through dialogue and performance and helps an actor to polish his acting skills with the help of reading, understanding and delivering a script on stage, in a theatre hall.

This year-long course will help a student to learn the nuances of basic acting and different other techniques that will enrich him as an actor. A student undergoing this particular course will get to learn the following features:-

  • Script Reading & Understanding a character
  • Memorizing, scanning, modulating and delivery
  • Understanding a stage-composition with Set-change, entry and exit
  • Relevant dance movements & rhythm sense development
  • Importance of Make-up, Costumes & Properties
  • Fight techniques
  • Understanding lights and voice enhancement

A certificate will be awarded to all successful students completing the course. All students will perform in a play designed for a batch of students and will be send to different prospective platforms in future.

COURSE OUTLINE

PART A : KNOWLEDGE BASED LEARNING
  1. History of theatre (World and regional), Types of theatre (a brief introduction), Evolution of theatre (a brief introduction), History and Evolution of Acting Techniques (a Short Overview).
  2. How to build a text of theatre/ How to write a drama?
  3. How to read a text/ How to analyse a text?
  4. Basic perceptions of theatre as a whole.

PART B: PRACTISE BASED LEARNING BASED LEARNING
  1. Creating the body for acting/ practices for making an actor’s body.
  2. Creating the voice for the actor.
  3. Role of emotion and relationship
  4. Improvisations
  5. Take a text or get a given text.
  6. Selecting a character
  7. Creating a Character map through 12 points and Stanislavsky Method.
  8. Set the space map/ get the given circumstances.
  9. Hands on Camera experience without script
  10. Imbibe yourself with all the requisites of the space.
  11. Practice Characterisation and enactment of the character.
  12. PLAY! (EXAM PROJECT)
